The electric portal series is characterized by a high degree of automation. In addition to an automatic clamping and lifting process, all portal drives can be operated by remote control. These and other functions simplify and accelerate the operating process. At the same time, the operator is able to carry out all system functions mobile and with one hand. The second hand is always free for handling the cable.

Even large drum rewinding systems can thus be operated by a single person without any problems.

Camera-supported monitoring of the layong process:

Depending on the system size and application, different locations can be considered for operation. The top priority is the personal safety of the operator. During the winding operation, the operating concept of the series prevents access to the running cable, the rotating drum, or moving machine elements. Cameras and additional sensors allow to combine ergonomics, safety and efficiency for daily operation.

Different versions of operating guidance:

Whether simple remote control for cable feed, more complex remote control for multiple movements, or conventional operating column with pushbuttons, the modular approach of the ramatech portal winding machines allows different operating options.

Simplified cable handling:

Depending on the stiffness and weight of the cable, cable handling takes up a substantial proportion of the overall process time. The various ramatech series use standardized laying/length measuring/cutting units.

Automatic detection of drum sizes:

The electric portal winding machine is equipped with a drum size detection module. Subsequently, the quill itself independently on the core hole and initiates the take-up process..

Independent clamping and lifting process:

The take-up operation is based on calculated factors. All movements take place in an area not accessible by operators. Different cone or quill geometries (depending on the type of drum or core hole) complete the frictionless drum pickup.

Controlled and adjustable force application:

The relationship between drum stability and machine performance must be correct. Especially with changing drum or spool types (wood, plastic, metal, etc.)..

Uncontrolled machine force can damage unstable drums and too gentle force makes a compact and cohesive take-up impossible.

The portal winding machines have an intelligent control of pick-up process, which doses force impacts. Due to the subsequent acceleration of the drum by means of the rubber wheel lying on the outside, the quills at the center of the drum do not have to build up unnecessary pressure.

Dynamic winding:

The use of a rubber wheel, with direct support on the drum flange, reinforces the drive power of the motor and allows high accelerations and fast braking.

Fast drum clamping:

The rubber wheel drive eliminates the need for power transmission in the center of the cable drum. This eliminates the need for wear-prone drive rods, as well as expensive friction discs.

Take-up times for cable drums are minimized, and manual adjustment of drive elements to varying holes in the drum flange is no longer necessary.

Avoidance of slippage and balancing of unevenness:

A double-sided drive (left and right drum flange) with adjustable contact pressure ensures effective and slip-free transmission of drive power.

Drum unevenness on the flange is compensated by the tire pressure and the spring action of the drive arm.

Drum Feeding by roller conveyor/conveyor technology:

Feeding by means of conveyor technology involves the use of transport racks for the cable drums. These racks can often be placed on top of a standard EURO pallet.

The drums move independently over the conveyor system of an intelligent control system. Pick-up and subsequent placement in the unwinding portal are automatic.

The conveyor system can be loaded semi-automatically with forklifts or fully automatically from the high rack with storage and retrieval machines.

Drum Feeding by a carriage:

When feeding by a carriage, drums are transported into the winding portal supported by rails. The drums are automatically picked up in the winding machine and then placed back on the carriage.

This solution offers various automation approaches, from straight feeding solutions (forward/backward) to carriages with rotary motion (90°), to rail-bound circulation systems in a stretched winding portal.

Close-to-the-ground feeding on the drum flange:

In ground-level feeding, the cable drums run on their own drum flange. Heavy feed rollers make the drums rotate and slowly roll them into the take-up position in the winding machine. Pick-up in the winding portal is fully automatic after reaching the transfer position..

The system allows up to three buffer positions. The feed unit cycles the cable drums step by step closer to the winding machine.

Drum feeding with automated guided vehicles (AGV):

Depending on drum sizes and weights,  also AGVs are suitable for feeding cable drums..

The AGV bridges the distance between the winding machine and the drum warehouse or drum rack system. For loading the winding machine, the self-propelled forklift truck drives into the portal entry and initiates the fully automatic drum take-up.
